Don't over tighten the bolt because you could strip it out. The best fix is to drop the oil pan and drill & tap the hole oversize to a 1/2" bolt. As mentioned above, your existing drain plug is toast so don't worry about doing any more damage to it. FYI, the stock Polaris drain plug is metric (M12x1.5). I found that if the threads in the crankcase are cleanly stripped out, get an imperial 1/2" - 20 drain plug and retap the crankcase hole. The tap drill for 1/2-20 fits perfectly in the.

If that's the case your looking at a larger drain plug if your lucky, and if not your replacing the oil pan and plug. OEM oil pans are less than $50 and are usually pretty easy to replace. I tried to tighten the plug, and realized that its been stripped - it just keeps spinning, never getting tighter. The previous owner failed to mention this - only that he changed the oil about.
HELP!!! Oil drain plug doesn't spinning.
Change your oil by sucking it up through the dipstick and leave the plug alone. If the plug leaks a little goop it up with some sealant and call it good. Unless the oil pan is completely accessible, that means no cross member underneath, removing the pan will be way over your head.

Then drill with a smaller bit for a bolt extractor. You want to avoid at all cost drilling clear through the bolt so the shards won't get into the oil pan. Step 3: Use a Hammer. If the 2nd step fails, do not lose hope. The other tip is to use a hammer and try to tap on the oil drain plug. Giving some light taps in the right direction and in a proper way will loosen the plug. Beware not to damage the oil drain plug or its teeth.

I've resurrected a couple posts trying to get an answer to this, so I appologize up front for three posts on this. I'm trying to change the oil; my first time doing it on my bike, a dealership usually did it. I went to remove the drain plug and gave the initial pull on the allen wrench to get it.

The plug spins like its ready to come out buy just won't do it. This is kind of scaring me. Sounds like something is caught on the tip of the plug preventing removal, or that you have only 1/2 of a good thread left, just enough to grip it barely. I was going to drain my trans (4r100) and the bolt just spins.... an impact on it. Sometimes the fast movement will allow it to come out. Then drop the pan and get it fixed, or get a replacement pan.... Just had the problem 4/12/2015 I pulled the pan and braised the spinning nut to the pan. Plug came right out. Now I'm looking for a new plug. 1. Just to clarify, a Toe Touch Stopper is smooth topped & doesn't have a knob on top to just pop up & down with no turning to engage. Plan A - You can push or hold the stopper down & try to just use finger or palm friction to unscrew the thin top.

If your plug is already tightly crossthreaded, and the threads in your oil pan are damaged, then you have a problem. First off, it might be difficult to remove, so avoid using vice grips, as those may strip the head. Use the proper-sized socket with the right number of sides. I used my impact gun on both of them with good results. For $240 he fixed the front strut and took care of the rear suspension too. $1180 after taxes free shipping for the Old Man Emu Nitro Sport Package, $18 for strut plates from rockauto, $35 to assemble the struts. All in all just under $1500 for a brand new suspension installed, I didn't think that was too bad.

I would get the engine nice and hot, that should warm up the oil pan and nut. Then put a large vice grips on the nut and clamp it on as tight as you can. Hopefully you can loosen it with the vice grips. You should probably also get another drain plug before loosening it so that you have it ready when you do get the plug out. If an oversized plug has been used previously, you will need to go up a little in the outer diameter. You could use a 1415C kit which is M14x1.5. The 14mm size is a little larger than the 1/2″ so that will work well. Just pick up a replacement 14mm drain plug from a parts store if you go this route. 17 Answers. It is very important to thread the oil pan drain plug straight in. Make sure it is not on an angle before you start threading it in. Tighten it with a wrench. Let the JB Weld dry overnight (approx.15 hours). Apply Anti-Seize to the center part (the piggyback) and thread it into place.
